Moody Blues

I’m so excited this year is all about colour and blue will be dominating the trend.

Wave goodbye to the beige box and get ready for rooms bursting with character and ambiance.

Dulux have released Teal as their colour of 2014. It’s a beautiful blue with a hint of green. Teal is a very calming colour and is ideal in a kitchen or living room as it isn’t too strong.

Check out Dulux’s new TV advert. I love it! It definitely says goodbye to boring beige 😉

If teal isn’t your preferred colour, this year will see all tones of blue. Blue can create a wonderful atmosphere or theme. Try blue for a restful, sophisticated, classic or nautical look.

I am in love with teaming dark blue walls with another 2014 trend, metallic! Try to incorporate metallic accessories with pewter, brass or copper. It gives lots of drama and a very designer look. But remember to avoid the goth vibe stick with a matte finish paint.

When teamed with a bright white and light floors these dark walls pop. Shame about the light switch though!

Or try small metallic accents such as a lamp or the studding detail on the headboard.

If you’re in doubt about dark walls bring in light curtains. Try use a fabric that is both light in colour and weight. It will give the room an airy look and make the room appear higher.  See how the curtains below have been hung on chrome curtain poles. Again this reflective metal adds texture and draws the eye to the highest point in the room.

I love this eccentric design. It incorporates drama, metallics, glass and still preserves a cosy feeling.

For those who don’t wish to take the step of bringing colour to the walls, try it on a piece of furniture instead.
